This joke came from a script a friend of mine and I wrote back in 2007 called Losing It. In fact, the blonde character in this comic, Skip, was created to be in a graphic novel adaptation of that script.

In it, Skip goes to a doctor for a physical and is embarrassed about his weight. He attempts to explain to the doctor, who was not native to the US and was from a culture where it was not insulting to speak frankly about being fat, that his entire family was “big boned” and that it was mostly genetic why he was over weight.

The doctor wrapped his thumb and index finger around Skip’s wrist and then felt the clavicle bone at Skip’s neck and informed him in a heavy accent that his bones were normal, he’s just fat.
